What to do for your role
Your role is to recognise, respond and report — not investigate.
If something concerns you
1
Make an objective recordRecord the date, time, place, observed facts and, if there was a disclosure, the person’s own words as accurately as possible.
2
Report to the safeguarding leadReport without unnecessary delay, following the club or federation procedure.
3
Maintain confidentialityShare information only with people who need it to protect the person and manage the concern.
Avoid: Do not minimise a concern because it seems “small” or part of team culture.
If someone shares or discloses something serious
1
ListenStay calm and let the person speak in their own words.
2
Do not promise secrecyExplain that you must share the concern with people who can protect the person and manage the case.
3
Do not investigateDo not ask leading or investigative questions, seek confessions or confront the person reported.
4
Report without delayPass the information to the safeguarding lead. If they are involved, use the designated alternative or higher route.
Avoid: Do not contact family members or third parties on your own if that could increase risk or interfere with the safeguarding or authority response.
If there is immediate danger
1
ProtectTake reasonable steps to reduce the immediate risk.
2
Contact the relevant servicesContact emergency services, child-protection services or the relevant authority when there is imminent risk or when local law requires it.
3
Record and reportDocument the essentials and activate the internal procedure as soon as it is safe to do so.
Avoid: Safety comes first; internal procedure must not delay an emergency response.
GR Safe Sport does not receive reports or store your responses.
